South Africa was chosen to host the FIFA World Cup 2010 after beating countries like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Morocco in the bidding.
10 teams already qualified for CHAN Sudan February 4-25, 2011 finals. 12 teams will battle it out this weekend for the remaining 6 spots.
1. Morocco vs Tunisia “With the return leg at Al Jadida on June 5th in mind, it was important for us to get a good result at home before heading to al-Maghrib.” Rami (www.tunisia.worldcupblog.org)
2. Kenya vs Uganda Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson: “it’s a crucial game. Win or lose it, it’s one that will change the face of Ugandan football.” 3. Rwanda vs Tanzania Rwanda champions APR were crowned the new CECAFA Club Cup Champions after beating St. George from Ethiopia 2-0 in extra time at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali last Saturday night. After a barren regulation time, APR turned on the heat in extra time scoring via Malawian Chiukepo Msowoya (you remember him?) in the 93rd minute and Malawian Victor Nyirenda in the 95th. Malawian Elvis Kafoteka also plays for APR . The Malawians will not help Rwanda this weekend.
4. Zambia vs South Africa South Africa development squad coach Simon Ngomane: “I must be the first one to admit that it will be a tough match. Zambia is a very tough opponent that we cannot afford to underrate. We are here to win and qualify for the finals and I think we have done our home work,” he said. He added that beating Zambia would be the best tonic to inspire the senior team, the Bafana Bafana, as the Rainbow Nation opens its doors to the world for the FIFA World Cup starting with their opener against Mexico next Friday. 5. Zimbabwe vs Seychelles Six members of Zimbabwe’s CHAN squad got a dream run against five-time world champions Brazil in a massive international friendly at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday. “It was an honour to play against Brazil and we had a lot of lessons from that game. We learnt the importance of keeping the ball, which is very important in that it helps you to control the game. The Brazilians were keeping the ball and it made it easier for them to control the pace of the game and to create openings.
6. Malawi vs Angola Angola Coach Herve Renard (former Zambia Coach): “It will be a very difficult game because the advantage at the moment is with Malawi. But we are strong enough to get the qualification. The CHAN is the target because I think it is a good tournament to test readiness of some players for international competitions.”
The first head of state to be invited was American President, Barrack Obama. It was only recently that African presidents were invited, largely to position the event as an African World Cup. In this FIFA world cup 2010, Obama was invited nearly 12 months ago, while invitations for African leaders were only sent recently. This may sound really strange.
It was South Africa and NOT Africa that won the bid to host the first World Cup to be hosted on the continent. Neither Germany which hosted the 2006 event, branded it as a European event, nor Japan and South Korea called it an Asian tournament despite it being hosted in the continent for the first time. But there are something which are unfair to Africans. So a question may definitely come in our mind whether it is an African’s world cup or not.
There is no doubt that World Cup Football is the biggest attraction in world football. The World cup program attracts people around the world. Football fans are now very excited with the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 which will kick off on 11 June in South Africa. But it is a matter of sorrow that, players’ preparation is being affected by the big money offers in the transfer window. There are many players who have already been connected with other clubs in the Summer transfer window. European clubs are offering lucrative and exclusive deals, while the others are trying their best to keep them stay in their clubs .They are marketing on the players. Though FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious tournament in world football, when the matter of money comes, European club football is much more attractive to the players.
The total prize money of World Cup Football 2010 is $420 million, while the combined spending of Real Madrid and Barcelona last summer was around €452 million ($555 million). Players seem to participate in world cup to increase their market value.
A number of star players who are now uncertain about their future ahead of the World Cup,would remain at Arsenal next season or move away from the North London club.Barcelona is highly interested to acquire the service of Fabregas before the World Cup begins, while Arsenal wants to wait until the tournament finishes, hoping that a good performance from the midfielder could increase his market value.
The new manager new manager of Real Madrid- Jose Mourinho is eager to make a swap deal involving Kaka and Chelsea’s Lampard. A number of Liverpool stars including Torres and Gerrard are also doubtful about their stay at Anfield next season with the club facing intense financial crisis. Manchester City has gone all the way to sign Aston Villa’s English international James Milner. Sevilla forward Luis Fabiano is keen to join AC Milan this summer.
We agree that the player are trying their best to pay full attention on world cup tournament. They are working hard for it as well. Still, it is very difficult to resist when it comes to money.
