“We are competing for the same teams in FIFA world cup 2010”---South African Provinces

African nations, including Botswana, have spent millions of dollars renovating, decorating and building new structures, hoping to host some World Cup teams ahead of the June 11 kick-off to get a share of 'their' event. But that has been an effort in vain. Instead, South Africa has campaigned vigorously to host all teams within its borders. Other provinces in the host nation have not secured teams and that has been a cause for concern to the Local Organizing Committee headed by Danny Jordaan.

Jordaan told Mmegi Sport in an interview a fortnight ago that the Botswana Football Association (BFA) should approach FIFA to get assistance on teams that might be interested in playing warm-up matches in Botswana, that sounds easier said than done.Botswana spent money on the Alexander Ross consultancy unaware of some arrangements, which made it difficult to convince teams to camp in the country. Despite Botswana's shortcomings, South Africans never really intended to share the cake with the rest of the continent as we are made to believe.

South African provinces, with far better facilities than most African countries, were competing for the same teams. Logically, most teams preferred the host nation
