South African World cup—great excitement all over the world
South Africa is having their first world cup football. There is no doubt that they are fully prepared for this prestigious event. All the participant countries are very excited, happy as well as pleased with the warm reception, security and hospitality of South Africa. The Nigerian appears reminiscing on the experiences of the first World Cup, which ends with the phrase: "That was a once in a life-time event".
It doesn't end there, where ever there is mention of the World Cup, South African Local Organizing Committee (LOC) members refer to it as the 'African World Cup'.
Yes, the tournament is hosted on African soil and a few thousand Batswana will be able to watch the soccer show piece live at stadiums. When Australia touched down at the Oliver Tambo (ORT) International Airport on Wednesday, only South Africans rejoiced at the sight, while it was business as usual across the continent. Probably the World Cup will not be coming to Africa for the next century. So it must be a big pride for them as well as a great opportunity for south Africa to create a big market surrounding the world cup event.
