A run to final is possible for England???
The English are the provider of the richest football leagues of the world. But when comes the question of national team and it’s success in the world cup the record is very much disappointing.
However, some of the records can be put down to bad luck, and not a little drama. If we just look at their past five tournaments we will see that three of those were ended by lost penalty shootouts: in 1990, 1998 and 2006.
England, World Cup winners in 1966, have spent decades trying to recapture their glory. This year, the team is depending on striker Wayne Rooney to carry them back to the top.England's Wayne Rooney tackles Japan's Yoshito Okubo during a warm-up game last month ahead of the World Cup in South Africa.
However,England believes in their coatch. It seems that They love to say one statement that "in Capello we trust". Looking back to his track record -- six Italian championships with three different teams, two Spanish titles with Real Madrid and a Champions League triumph with AC Milan -- it seems a reasonable strategy.
But Capello's squad selection has already caused some consternation among England fans. Promising youngsters Theo Walcott -- who once hit a hat-trick for England -- and Adam Johnson were left out, dashing many hopes of a new star emerging during the tournament, as Paul Gascoigne did in 1990 and Rooney did in the 2004 UEFA European Football Championship. Moreover, god forbid, if Roonie gets injured during the world cup the team may be at stake as they don’t have any alternative there.
Despite the worries, a run to the final is possible, at least a minimum target of the quarter-finals -- and then another excruciating loss -- is perhaps more realistic. Nevertheless what we can say now is " All the best England team" for world cup 2010
